Dennis, thanks for the fact check but I was only quoting from the Sunday Tribune on this one. Maybe they were drinking on the job. Appreciate the input. Cheers.

Fact-check on Coddle:
If Jonathan Swift enjoyed this dish as you say, then it dates to WAY before the Famine years (as in 2 centuries before the Famine).
That does not change the nutritional value of this dish, but you might want to correct one or the other historical reference.

I'm coming to this one a bit late Gav but I really enjoyed it. Funny enough my brother was the bannisteoir for one of the teams in the All Ireland club hurling final this year (De La Salle). They were hammered by Portumna on the day but seeing as it was the first time they won a county medal and went all the way to the All Ireland Final becoming Munster Champions on the way, they did well.

Ahahahaha! This is a great post Gavan! My ex was Irish, so I was able to sample a lot of these delicacies, including boxty - in DUBLIN of all places! I have never had the pleasure of a spice burger, but I am certainly intrigued...But I love me some lamb and cabbage!
